Historical moped and motorcycle race cooking in Zlín
Zlín Veteran Car Club at Rally Auto Klub in AČR lines up a motorcycle competition called
“Zlínská čtyřiadvacítka (Zlín Twenty-four)” early in June (4th–5th). It is an endurance race of
historical mopeds and motorcycles up to 50 ccm with no tuning. Mopeds Stadion S11, S22,
S23, JAWETA, JAWA 550, JAWA 555 will appear at the start. Zlín organizers restore a
tradition of motorcycle races in Zlín region for only older contemporaries can recall those
famous two-wheeled races under the name “Zlínská osma (Zlín Eight)” in 50s of last century.
“Every crew consists of three members. The race itself will be ridden in common road
traffic in compliance with traffic rules for roads. Motorcycles have to fit technical
specifications for road traffic. Each crew rides at their own risk and participants
younger than eighteen have to have a written consent of their statutory agent,”
mentioned Antonín Smažinka, the main organizer of the event. The organizers suppose the
main post and pits to be in the centre of the town and the race will be on a ring about from 30
to 40 kilometres long. “In these days we negotiate a final shape of the track. There will be
passing controls placed on the circuit to ensure a sport value of the race,” specified
Smažinka. No racing licence is needed to take part in historical motorcycle races but a
relevant driving licence, according to a law, and approved helmet. The best riders will obtain
cups and the organizers will prepare a memorial diploma for all participants. The “Zlínská
čtyřiadvacítka” will start on Monday 4th June in the afternoon.
