The Star Rally of vintage cars will be held during the Barum Czech Rally Zlin between 27th and 28th August 2010 on selected stages of the Barum Rally. The organizers promise real unique cars, mostly from Italy and Germany.

The organizers from the Autoclub Barum Zlin have prepared an open international historical rally in order to demonstrate vintage cars at the special stages without timekeeping. “Only vintage cars or replicas can take part in the event. The car’s appearance must correspond with the original model and must represent the history of rally sport. Cars made after 1986 may only be the original competitive cars,“ said Antonín Smažinka, head of the Star Rally. At least eighteen cars from Italy are coming and none of them are replicas. The fans will be able to see a legendary Lancia 037 Rally group B which has never participated in the Barum Rally. “At least nine cars from the WRC photographer Reinhard Klein from Germany. These cars will take part in the Deutschland Rally a week before the Barum Rally where they will fight on a well-know circuit in Panzerplatte Arena. Of course, there will be more of them in Germany,“ said Ing. Jan Regner, deputy clerk of the course of the Barum Czech Rally Zlín. Spectators will also see well- known entertainers, such as Niki Glisic from Austria or Jozef Béreš sr. from Slovakia. Also the wild Hungarians and Czech drivers will come. However, only 45 crews can participate. “There are more applications than the number of allowed crews. We have to decide who will be accepted to start,“ said Regner. Due to huge interest of Italian drivers, the organizers have asked Stefano Zini to become a deputy hear and help with organization.

The scrutineering for the Star Rally will be held on Friday, August 27 from 14:00 to 15:30 on the NámÄ›stí Míru square in front of the town hall. The Star Rally will start on Friday, August 27 at 16:00 on the platform in front of the town hall and the first car will appear at the Super SS at 20:00. The vintage cars will be an attractive and thrilling overture for the Barum Rally. On Saturday, August 28 the rally will start at 11:00 in front of the Big Cinema in Zlin and the cars will go through SS Biskupice and ZádveÅ™ice twice and through Semetín and Troják once. The Star Rally will pass through the stages after the contemporary cars. The first car will arrive to the finish platform in front of the Big Zinema shortly after 18:00 and the prize-giving ceremony will be held. The Star Rally is 241 km long in total and includes 7 special stages of total length of 98 km. Fans can see the vintage cars in the service park which will be located at a car park near Tomáš BaÅ¥a University in Zlin, next to Moskva Hotel. The service park will be open from 08:00, Friday, August 27.
Results will be based on SMS vote by spectators during the rally. The vote will be held in cooperation with the media partner Radio Zlín. “Six crews according to the SMS vote will be awarded. All crews will get souvenirs, “ said Smažinka.
